The Robinsons Road, Deer Park level crossing was removed in September 2022, by building a road underpass and rail bridge.

The level crossing was removed months ahead of schedule, following major works starting in early 2021.

Removing this level crossing has reduced travel times, improved safety and traffic flow, and created better local connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

Works also included planting more than 100,000 trees, shrubs and grasses.

During the project, crews excavated more than 60,000 cubic metres of rock and soil to build the new road underpass and rail bridge, and installed 430 tonnes of steel, and seven bridge beams weighing 80 tonnes each.

The boom gates in Deer Park and Ardeer were down for up to 45% of the morning peak, when up to 37 trains ran through the Fitzgerald and Robinsons Road level crossings.

With the removal of the Mt Derrimut Road level crossing, and Fitzgerald Road last year, the Geelong and Ballarat lines are now level crossing free between Deer Park and the city.
