We're closing the level crossing at Progress Street, Dandenong and building a new road bridge connecting Progress Street to Fowler Road, providing businesses access to the South Gippsland Highway.
The Fowler Road and South Gippsland Highway intersection will be upgraded and signalised to improve traffic flow and ease congestion along Fowler Road.
As part of the final designs, we’re upgrading Fowler Road with new indented parking. By removing on-street parking, we’re providing a greater drivable width compared with Progress Street, making it easier and safer for all road users including oversized and overmass vehicles.
Closing the level crossing will help create a level crossing-free Pakenham Line, changing how local live, work and travel.
Major construction is set to begin in early 2024, with the level crossing gone for good by 2025.
