The project includes a modern upgrade of the existing pedestrian underpass, redesigned ramps and installation of lifts, new lighting, CCTV, new canopies and direct access to city-bound trains from Haughton Road.
Trains will continue to run during construction, but there will be some temporary changes to station access and car parking.
Work is now underway and the new facilities will be ready for commuters to enjoy by mid 2020.
