The 68th dangerous and congested level crossing at Mt Derrimut Road is gone for good and the new Deer Park Station has opened.

When the new, modern Deer Park Station is complete in late 2023, it will include an air-conditioned waiting room, 150 new and upgraded car parks, a multi-bay bus interchange and pick-up/drop-off zones.

There will also be landscaping around the precinct and improved connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, including a north-south connection between both sides of the new station.

The Mt Derrimut Road boom gates were down for up to 60% of the morning peak, delaying some of the 23,000 vehicles that passed through each day and causing traffic chaos in this part of Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The nearby level crossing at Fitzgerald Road, Ardeer was removed in July 2022, and the level crossing at Robinsons Road, Deer Park was removed in September 2022. The Ballarat and Geelong lines are now level crossing free between Deer Park and the city.
