The level crossing at McKinnon Road, McKinnon was removed in 2016 and a new McKinnon Station opened that same year.
The level crossing was removed by lowering the rail line below McKinnon Road.
The Mckinnon Road level crossing was removed at the same time as other crossings at Centre Road, Bentleigh and North Road, Ormond.
The stations are now safer, more user friendly and fully accessible, with lifts, ramps and stairs down to platforms below ground level in the new rail cutting.
On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is overseeing the removal of 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.
