The Mascot Avenue, Bonbeach Level Crossing closed in February 2020 during a two-week construction-blitz that saw the opening of the new direct connection from McLeod Road to Nepean Highway, trains running on the new rail bridge, and stopping at the new Carrum Station.
During early community consultation for the Carrum Level Crossing Removal Project we heard that locals wanted Station Street connected across Patterson River.
A new road bridge was added to the scope of works and opened to traffic in September 2018, creating a more direct road network and enabling the closure of the Mascot Avenue, Bonbeach level crossing.
Works will continue throughout 2020 to complete the new Carrum Station and create four new community open spaces as part of Carrum’s $50 million revitalisation.
On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is overseeing the removal of 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.
