Level crossing removed

Rail bridges are the preferred designs to remove the level crossings at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark and Maroondah Highway, Lilydale.

Two new elevated stations will be built at Lilydale and Mooroolbark as part of the project.

Both level crossings will be gone in 2022.

More than 53,000 vehicles travel through these level crossings each day where the boom gates can be down for up to a quarter of the morning peak. There have been 13 crashes in the past 10 years, resulting in one fatal incident.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is overseeing the removal of 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.
