The level crossing at Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna will be removed by the building of a new rail bridge over the road.
The design is in response to the unique environment and topography of the area and the strong desire of the community to minimise the loss of trees from within the Rosanna Parklands.
Works will include the building of a new Rosanna Station and are part of the Hurstbridge Rail Line Upgrade project.
Work is ahead of schedule and set to be completed by May 2018.
Before their removal in March 2018, the boom gates at Lower Plenty Road were down for about 43 minutes during the 7:00am to 9:00am weekday morning peak.

New Rosanna Station opens, with two level crossings gone for good
From tomorrow, normal train services will resume on the Hurstbridge line and passengers will be able to catch trains from the new Rosanna Station.
To be able to make improvements to the network and power train services along the South Morang and Hurstbridge lines, a new electrical substation needs to be installed.
While the construction blitz is over, there’s still plenty to do in Rosanna as works continue to complete the new station and car parking.
