The level crossing at Lochiel Avenue, Edithvale was closed to traffic in November 2021 as part of the works to remove the Edithvale Road level crossing.

Pedestrian and cycling access across the rail line has been retained with a signalised crossing for safety and accessibility.

While only a small number of vehicles use the Lochiel Avenue level crossing daily, it created significant congestion with boom gates down for 39 minutes in the morning peak.

With the improved Edithvale Road intersection only 500m away, vehicles now have more efficient and safer access across the Frankston Line.

Works started in 2020, with all level crossings from Edithvale to Bonbeach gone in late 2021.
