The level crossing at Lochiel Avenue, Edithvale is being closed to traffic as part of the works to remove the Edithvale Road level crossing. Pedestrian and cycling access across the rail line will be retained with a signalised crossing for safety and accessibility.
While only a small number of vehicles use the Lochiel Avenue level crossing daily, it creates significant congestion with boom gates down for 39 minutes in the morning peak.
With the improved Edithvale Road intersection only 500 metres away, vehicles will have more efficient and safer access across the Frankston line.
Construction started this year and all the level crossings from Edithvale to Bonbeach will be gone in 2022.
