The boom gates at Koornang Road in Carnegie are gone and the new Carnegie Station is operational.
The Koornang Road crossing has been removed as part of the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project that saw the removal of nine level crossings in total.
The level crossing has been removed by the construction of an elevated rail line. The Caulfield to Dandenong project is expected to be completed in late 2018.
The boom gates at Koornang Road had been down for up to 87 minutes in the weekday peak from 7:00am to 9:00am, causing frustration and delay for the thousands of motorists who use the road.
The use of elevated rail to remove the crossings is opening up 22.5 hectares of open space which will become parkland. You can find out more about the open space here.
