We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Substations are an integral part of Melbourne’s train network; they house electrical equipment that converts high-voltage alternating current power supply to direct current power to operate trains, signals and communications equipment.

To be able to make improvements to the capacity of the Hurstbridge line, and power additional train services, the Level Crossing Removal Authority will be constructing a new substation at Eaglemont and upgrading three substations at Macleod, Fairfield and Preston. These substations will be operated by Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM).
