Level crossing removed

Three crossings at Fitzgerald Road in Ardeer, and Robinsons Road and Mt Derrimut Road in Deer Park, will be removed along the Geelong and Ballarat lines.

The removal of these level crossings will include the construction of new Deer Park Station.

The boom gates in Deer Park and Ardeer can be down for up to 45 per cent of the 7:00am to 9:00am peak, when up to 37 trains run through the crossings. Current network plans involve increasing trains running on the Geelong and Ballarat lines, meaning more boom gate downtime.

The Fitzgerald Road, Ardeer level crossing was identified as a priority site for removal in the Victorian Government’s Site Prioritisation Framework.

Prioritising future level crossing removals: Site prioritisation framework

Prioritising level crossings for removal is a complex task, with no simple answer. This is because there are a range of different factors which may warrant removal of a level crossing.

Priority Level Crossing Removal Sites: Deer Park

Using the Site Prioritisation Framework, crossings at Mt Derrimut Road and Robinsons Road in Deer Park, and Fitzgerald Road in Ardeer, have been identified as priority sites for future removal.
