We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Major construction is well underway for a vital upgrade, which will allow for trains every ten minutes on the Cranbourne line.

We’re fully duplicating the line by building eight kilometres of new track next to the existing one, and duplicating two rail bridges at Abbotts Road and Eumemmerring Creek.

We’re also removing the last three remaining level crossings between Cranbourne and the city and building a brand new station at Merinda Park in Lyndhurst.

One level crossing removal is now complete:

Hand in hand with the Metro Tunnel, the Cranbourne Line Upgrade will make road and rail travel easier, faster and more reliable for Melbourne’s south east.

This project will also deliver a new rail connection for the Port Rail Shuttle Network, allowing freight to be transported by train from Dandenong South through to the Port of Melbourne.

Major works have also begun to untangle the tracks at the junction where the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines merge in Dandenong.

Once complete in 2023, the new parallel tracks will increase reliability, making it easier for trains to run to the timetable.
