The level crossing at Koornang Road, Carnegie was removed in February 2018 as part of the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project.

By building an elevated rail line, the project has opened up 22.5 hectares of open space and parkland for the community.

The Victorian Government made a commitment to protect the Woorayl Street Reserve and announced funding to improve the additional open space and provide additional parking.

As part of this project, we’ll be delivering new community recreational spaces located near Girdwood Avenue and at the Woorayl Street Reserve, as well as construct 27 additional car parks on Egan Street, Carnegie.

We asked the community to tell us how they would like to use the new spaces and what we should consider in the design. Community consultation ran for four weeks from Monday 22 February to Friday 19 March on our Engage Victoria page.

Community feedback will be used to refine final designs, which we’ll present back to the community in mid 2021.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, the Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.
