Removing the level crossings at Chelsea, Bonbeach and Edithvale

Text. $3B Investment on the Frankston line, removing 18 level crossings, building 12 new stations. Five level crossings set to go. Three new stations.

Vision. Map showing Frankston line level crossing removal sites and new station locations. View showing location of the five level crossing locations set to go in Chelsea, Bonbeach and Edithvale, and the three new stations.

Voiceover. We're investing $3 billion dollars to upgrade the Frankston line; removing 18 level crossings and building 12 new stations. As part of this investment we’re fast tracking level crossing removals in Chelsea. Crossings at Swanpool Avenue, Chelsea Road, and Argyle Avenue will be gone for good in 2022. That means five more level crossings removed and three new stations on the Frankston line.

Vision. Map showing how railway line will be lowered into a trench under Thames Promenade and Argyle Avenue, allowing a new connection to the Nepean Highway.

Voiceover. In Chelsea, the rail line will be lowered into a trench to travel under Thames Promenade and Argyle Avenue. A new direct road connection to the Nepean Highway will be built at Thames Promenade.

Vision. Map showing the closure of the Swanpool Avenue and Chelsea Road level crossings.

Voiceover. The Swanpool Avenue and Chelsea Road level crossings will be closed and Chelsea will get a new modern station, slightly south of the current station.

Vision. Map with moving arrows showing new movement of traffic in Chelsea.

Voiceover. There will be changes to how you move around Chelsea. Streamlining the Nepean Highway connection will get rid of the complicated and dangerous intersection at Chelsea Road. This will create a direct link to major arterial roads, including the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and future Mordialloc Freeway. Extending Thames Promenade will improve traffic flow and open access for locals to shops, Chelsea Station, parking and the beach.

Vision. Map showing Edithvale Station and Bonbeach station locations.

Voiceover. While we are removing level crossings in Chelsea, we’ll also be working in Edithvale and Bonbeach.

Vision. Map of Edithvale, showing the rail line being lowered under Edithvale Road, the closure of Lochiel Avenue, and moving arrows showing new traffic flow to Nepean Highway and location of new station at Edithvale.

Voiceover. At Edithvale Road, the level crossing will be removed by lowering the rail line under the road. We'll also be closing Lochiel Avenue and significantly upgrading the new Edithvale Road intersection. A direct connection with dedicated turning lanes, and more green time, plus a brand new modern station near Denman Avenue.

Vision. Map of Bonbeach, showing the rail line being lowered under Bondi Road, and the location of the new station at Bonbeach. Moving arrows showing how traffic will flow with access to Nepean Highway.

Voiceover. At Bondi Road, the level crossing will also be removed by lowering the rail under the road. And a new modern station at Bonbeach will be built closer to Monica Avenue, improving access to the lifesaving club and the beach.

Vision. Extended map view of Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach with moving arrows to indicate better flow of traffic.

Voiceover. We're coordinating works to limit disruptions for the Frankston line. Five dangerous level crossings gone, and better connections, will take traffic off local roads making these suburbs safer and easier to get around.

Text. Streamlining connections. Job done in 2022.

Voiceover. We’ll have the job done in 2022.
