Text. Your new Moreland Station. Your new Coburg Station.
Narrator. Pedestrian access to this section will also be closed during this time. This will allow us to get on with removing four level crossings on the Upfield line and building two new stations at Moreland and Coburg.
Vision. Map showing detours that will be in place during Upfield bike path closure.
Narrator. There are two detours from the Upfield bike path, one to the east and another to the west. These detours use known cyclist routes. They use existing infrastructure, like line markings and pedestrian lights, and they avoid congested, narrow or busy roads with fast moving traffic. These detours have been selected in consultation with Vic Roads and Bicycle Network.
Vision. Alexander, Bicycle Network speaking in front of a row of bicycles. Bike riders using the Upfield bike path. Bike rider waiting at street and crossing the existing level crossing location.
Alexander. I do actually live in the Brunswick and Coburg area so I use the Upfield path quite a lot, and it can be tricky when you’re planning a detour because inevitably there’s going to be a little bit of extra time added, or using some streets that you wouldn’t typically ride a bike on when you’ve got the Upfield path there. But we know there’s been a lot of work done to try and find routes that are quite straight for bike riders, but there’s also been work to try and use existing routes that people are riding on already.
Vision. Artists impression of open space area beneath rail line and a new bike path and open space.
Text. New landscaped areas. Improving the Upfield bike path. New community open space. New facilities.
Alexander. It’s going to be great at the end and we’ll get to see a nice improved wider path with some dedicated space for bikes next to the Upfield rail line, but also some better access and parking at some of the stations as well, which will be really nice for people and hopefully encourage even more people to ride a bike and leave the car at home.
