Text. This 128-year-old building was salvaged from Clayton Station. It’s been restored by about 200 students from Chisholm Institute of TAFE and has been reinstated beside the new elevated Clayton Station.
Tim Griffin, Senior Project Manager
I think retaining a part of the old station is really important for the local community. It will help people identify with that history that was here before the project. This is one part of quite a few things we’ve done in the station precinct. We’ve got old train tickets embossed into seating. We’ve got bluestone paving to signify where the old train line was.

We recognise the massive boom in infrastructure in Victoria at the moment, so this is a massive opportunity for us to partner with Chisholm TAFE and the students here.

I feel it’s an absolute honour and a privilege to be able to work on something so old and have that amount of respect for it.
Kaan Geldikaya, Apprentice Carpenter
This is helpful because you get to see kind of a progression of carpentry to see how things were done before and how they’re done now.
Corey Ward, Carpentry Teacher
They get a lot of pride in working on projects like this and they drive past with their family and go, oh look, you know we actually worked on that, and it’ll stand for another hundred years.
