Works notice – Preston site establishment, Preston Station

26 Oct 2020

The Victorian Government is removing four dangerous and congested level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and building new Bell and Preston Stations. The level crossings will be removed by raising the rail line over the roads, improving safety and accessibility, and delivering new community open spaces.

Site establishment works

Preliminary works ahead of site establishment will begin on Friday 6 November 2020 and continue until late December 2020. The Project’s regular working hours will be between 7am and 6pm weekdays, and 7am and 3pm Saturdays.

These works will involve utility service relocations and site investigations throughout the rail corridor between Regent and Cramer streets, including the Preston Station precinct. The project will also be establishing long term construction sites at Preston Station.

What to expect

Preston Station precinct – works area

Establishment of the construction site will commence on Friday 6 November until late December 2020.

This will include relocation of electricity services in the Preston Station and Preston Market car parks as well as installation of site fencing, ground excavations and investigative works.

Preston Station car park will become a key works area until late 2022 and will require:

  • Closure of the eastern rail passenger car park at Preston Station
  • Accessible parking spaces at Preston Station will be relocated to the north west station car park on the corner of Murray Road and St Georges Road
  • Installation of safety barriers, temporary fencing and site sheds
  • Access to Preston Station will remain open from Murray Road and Cramer Street
  • Increased truck and construction vehicle movements

Preston Market car parks construction zone:

  • Friday 6 November – Monday 9 November – temporary closure of 81 market car parks
  • Friday 6 November – Thursday 12 November additional market car parks will be used outside of Market hours for electricity service relocations

Details about parking closures and accessible parking are shown on the map overleaf. Commuters arriving by car are encouraged to travel to Regent Station or Reservoir Station where passenger car parking is available.
