Works notice – Preston sewer pipe relocation works
02 Aug 2021
The Victorian Government is removing four dangerous and congested level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and building new Bell and Preston Stations. The level crossings will be removed by raising the rail line over the roads, improving safety and accessibility, and delivering new community open spaces.
From Thursday 5 August until mid- September the Preston Level Crossing Removal Team will be relocating a section of the sewer pipe to make way for the rail bridge. The works will take place within the construction site and adjacent to the end of Bruce Street and Herbert Street.
The sewer relocation works will involve excavating, laying new pipe then connecting the new pipe to the existing sewerage pipeline.
We will be required to block access to one driveway to facilitate these works. We will be in contact directly with the residents affected. Access to all other properties will be maintained.
Street parking will be maintained on both Bruce Street and Herbert Street during these works.
Once the sewer pipe has been relocated, we will commence installing hardstand in the area to continue works for the construction of the rail bridge. Hardstand is a paved area where heavy machinery can be parked during works.
What to expect
- Non-destructive digging (NDD) and small excavation equipment
- Some noise, dust and vibration from construction machinery
- An increase in construction workforce and vehicles in the area including excavators
