Works notice – Preston level crossing 24 hour works

20 Sep 2021

The Victorian Government is removing four dangerous and congested level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and building new Bell and Preston Stations. The level crossings will be removed by raising the rail line over the roads, improving safety and accessibility, and delivering new community open spaces.

The Preston Level Crossing Removal Project will be undertaking 24-hour works within the rail corridor between Rushall Station, Fitzroy North, and Regent Street, Preston from:

  • 8pm Friday 1 October to 3am Monday 4 October
  • 8pm Friday 8 October to 3am Monday 11 October 2021

During this time the project will install essential rail bridge and station infrastructure, continue piling works, install signalling, overhead power infrastructure, and services.

Changes to the way you travel

There will be traffic management in place over both weekends to provide project vehicles and equipment safe access to the rail corridor. There may be some delays for vehicles, please follow signage and instructions to move safely around work zones.

To safely carry out works, the following pedestrian rail crossings will be closed throughout both weekends:
  • Thornbury Station (northern pedestrian rail crossing)
