Works notice – Preston investigation works, January

17 Dec 2020

The Victorian Government is removing four dangerous and congested level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and building new Bell and Preston stations.

The level crossings will be removed by raising the rail line over the roads, improving safety and accessibility and delivering new community open spaces.

Geotech investigative works

From Monday 18 January to Monday 1 February 2021 geo-tech investigations will be carried out to understand the soil conditions in preparation for building the elevated rail structure.

Work will be undertaken during standard project work hours between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and 7am and 3pm on Saturdays.

The investigation works will require drilling, which may result in some increased noise.

To allow this work to be carried out safely, there will be traffic management at the corner of Edith Street and Bruce Street to help with project vehicles accessing the rail corridor. Access to local properties will be maintained at all times.

Bruce Street rail pedestrian crossing closure

The pedestrian rail crossing at Bruce Street will temporarily close from Monday 18 January to Monday 1 February 2021 to allow machinery access to the rail corridor.

Pedestrians will need to cross the rail line at Cramer Street in the north, or Bell Street in the south.

What to expect

  • Increased truck and vehicle movements in and out of the work site
  • Some noise from work crews and increased activity in the area
  • Operation of construction vehicles and equipment.

For your safety, follow the signage and instructions from traffic management.
