Works notice – Hallam Road late January and early February works

We’re removing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Hallam Road, Hallam, and building a brand-new Hallam Station.

This is an overview of construction activities, station changes and changed traffic conditions around Hallam Station throughout January and early February 2022.

Works on the Hallam Road level crossing removal are being carried out with COVIDSafe Plans in place to help protect workers and the community.  For more information about coronavirus (COVID-19), please visit the coronavirus website.

Hallam Road night closures next week

Hallam Road will be closed at the level crossing between 9pm and 6am each night from Thursday 27 January to 6am Saturday 12 February.

Detour signage will be in place for drivers, while traffic controllers will be on site to assist pedestrians walk across the level crossing safely. Bus routes along Hallam Road will also be maintained through the level crossing with traffic management in place. Please allow additional time when planning your journey.

Rail passenger disruptions

Buses are replacing trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines until last service Thursday 10 February.

Please allow extra time when planning your journey during these times.

Bicycle parkiteer closure

The bicycle parkiteer at Hallam Station will be closed from Monday 31 January and will reopen in a new location in the southern carpark in May 2022.

Temporary bike parking hoops will be provided at the station for cyclists to use near the Platform 1 ramp while the parkiteer is closed.

What to expect

  • Construction noise from machinery including excavators, cranes, rollers, non-destructive digging machinery, trucks and light towers. Nearby residents and businesses may notice increased noise and vibration during the 24/7 works.
  • An increased number of delivery and construction vehicles accessing the site compound and the rail corridor via access points on Hallam Road, Rimfire Drive, Centre Road, O’Grady Road, as well as Star Crescent
  • Traffic management on Hallam Road and pedestrian traffic management to safely guide pedestrians around the works areas. Please follow the directions from traffic management staff
  • Intermittent lane closures reduced speed to 40km/h on Hallam Road for the project duration. It is advised to expect delays when planning your journey.
