Works notice – demolition of former Girl Guides and Trugo Club buildings

19 Nov 2020

The Victorian Government is removing four dangerous and congested level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and building new Bell and Preston stations. The level crossings will be removed by raising the rail line over the roads, improving safety and accessibility and delivering new community open spaces.

Building demolition

To make way for the new Preston Station and car park we need to demolish the former Girl Guides and Trugo Club buildings. Both buildings are rundown from not being in use for several years. Located on the west side of Preston Station this area will become a key project construction site and will be used for delivery and storage of bridge beams and provide heavy construction vehicle and crane access.

From Tuesday 24 November works will begin and are expected to take up to four weeks to safely complete the demolition and prepare ground surface for the works. The Project’s regular working hours will be between 7am and 6pm weekdays, and 7am and 3pm Saturdays.

Changes to the way you move around the area

The footpath on the western side of Preston Station from Cramer Street to the Station, will be closed during demolition works. Detour signs will be in place for you to follow.

We’ll also be closing 18 car spaces at the former Trugo Club car park for the duration of the project. The remaining car spaces will be maintained for market vehicles.

What to expect

  • Increased truck and vehicle movements in and out of the work site
  • Some noise from work crews and increased activity in the area
  • Operation of construction vehicles and equipment

For your safety, follow the signage and instructions from traffic management.
