We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Works notice – Clyde Road, Berwick road and rail closure, January and February

07 Dec 2021

The Victorian Government is removing 22 dangerous level crossings, including the one at Clyde Road, Berwick as part of a $15 billion investment to upgrade the Pakenham line that will make it level crossing-free by 2025.

We’ll work around the clock from 12am Monday 10 January 2022 to 11.59pm Sunday 20 February 2022 during a closure of Clyde Road and the Pakenham line. During this time we’ll remove the level crossing and boom gates, install a new rail bridge, signalling equipment and track, dig out the new road underpass, create the new road surface and build shared use paths.

What to expect

  • Closure of Clyde Road in both directions and some local streets.
  • Reduced speed limits and increased travel times around the area.
  • Increased heavy vehicle activity, construction traffic and construction workers moving through the area.
  • Noise, dust, lighting and vibration from construction works.
  • Changes to travel on public transport.
  • Vehicle, pedestrian and cyclists detours.

Works will take place 24 hours a day within the rail corridor and along Clyde Road during these times. We’ll notify impacted residents and businesses directly and minimise impacts where possible.
