Seaford Road Community Update - March 2018

Along the Frankston line, the Victorian Government is removing 13 dangerous level crossings and building a new train storage facility, to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains, more often. Construction works are soon to commence to remove the level crossing at Seaford Road.

Early works

Over the past weeks, site investigation works have taken place to identify the location of underground services and assess ground conditions to prepare for construction.

What’s next?

During March, we will start preparing for construction with various activities to occur including installing safety fencing and tree and vegetation removal. We will also establish a site office at RF Miles Reserve which will allow the project team to be based adjacent to the works.

During April and May, a temporary rail track will be constructed to allow trains to continue to run while we build the new rail line. This means the majority of construction works at Seaford Road can be done without major disruption to rail services.


We will be working hard throughout the project to minimise disruptions for residents and commuters wherever possible. However, there will be some unavoidable disruptions. Notifications will be sent to residents as far in advance as possible. We also recommend signing up for email updates at our website and checking our social media channels for the latest information.

Works during March

In the coming weeks we will continue to work along the rail corridor to prepare for construction. Works will also include:

Safety fencing

Safety fencing will be installed along the rail line to ensure the safety of our workers and the public during construction.

Tree trimming and removal

To safely construct and operate the new rail line, tree and vegetation removal and trimming is required. In early-mid March, pine trees and vegetation between RF Miles Reserve and the rail corridor will be removed.

Commencing on the long weekend, we will also be removing and trimming trees along the rail line behind Levuka Street and Bayside Grove, as well as along Railway Parade. One of the benefits of the hybrid design and the embankments, is the opportunity for replanting and landscaping. We will be working with the community in the coming months to finalise the landscape design.

Site office establishment

We will be establishing a site office at RF Miles Reserve for construction workers and the project team to be located near the works. This will reduce the need for site vehicles to use local streets to travel to and from the site at numerous times during the day.

The oval pavilion, club rooms and cricket nets will remain open for the community to use. The site office will include temporary offices, car parking and an area for storing construction machinery. As part of the project, there will be a program to revitalise and upgrade the reserve following the removal of the level crossing.

Path diversion

From early March, we will be diverting the walking path that currently runs between RF Miles Reserve and the rail line. The diversion will run between the end of Seaford Station car park and Seaford Road, along Kananook Creek. Clear signage will be placed along the path and at Seaford Station.
