Old Geelong Road - consultation report
02 Sep 2019
The Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing level crossing is located near important facilities such as hospitals, shopping centres and schools, carries about 18,000 vehicles each day and links to the nearby Princes Highway and Princes Freeway. In November 2018, the Victorian Government announced a road over rail design was the most likely solution for removing this crossing.
In the preferred new road bridge over the rail line east of the existing crossing, a direction connection between the Princes Freeway, Old Geelong Road and Heaths Road would be created. The existing crossing would be closed to road traffic, making way for improved community spaces with updated landscaping. Locals would access Hoppers Crossing Station via a new elevated pedestrian and cyclist overpass.
The project is currently in the design development phase. The final design will be confirmed in late 2019. Construction will begin in 2020 and the project will be completed by the end of 2022.
Between Thursday 27 June and Friday 26 July 2019, Werribee and Hoppers Crossing locals gave feedback on the design look and feel and use of public space.
The aim of the consultation was to advise the community of the preferred design and another feasible design for the Old Geelong Road level crossing removal in Hoppers Crossing, while allowing for feedback on the designs' look and feel and use of public space.
This report outlines the key themes raised in the feedback from the community, businesses and stakeholders during this consultation period.
