Introducing your new Glenhuntly Station

The Victorian Government is removing 18 level crossings and building 12 new stations as part of a $3 billion upgrade of the Frankston line that will improve safety, reduce congestion, and allow more trains to run more often.

We are getting rid of the Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road level crossings by lowering the rail line into a trench and building a new Glenhuntly Station. Works will start in late 2021.

The boom gates will be gone in 2023 and the project completed in 2024, one year ahead of schedule.

New station design

Responding to community feedback, your new station blends traditional elements with a contemporary design and reflects the local architecture along Glen Huntly Road.

Our design team has used the insights and feedback you have given us over the past 6 months to create your new station precinct. It will feature a vibrant open forecourt complete with seating and landscaping to create more open space for locals.

Why these level crossings need to go

  • 20,000 vehicles travel through these crossings each weekday
  • 3,000 people use the Glenhuntly Station each day
  • 200 passenger trains use the Frankston line daily
  • Boom gates down for almost 60 minutes in the weekday 2-hour peak

Station precinct changes

  • We have responded to your feedback about the look and feel of the station precinct.
  • The vibrant new station forecourt will be well-lit with feature landscaping, including trees and smaller plants, and seating.
  • The new station design incorporates brick as a key feature, reflecting the surrounding area.
  • There will be easy access between the station, shops, businesses and homes either side of the rail line – no more waiting for a train to pass.
  • By relocating the tram stop to the front of the station we are making it easier to connect between train and tram services.
  • Improved station facilities including weather protection, climate-controlled waiting room, lifts and stairs to platforms, live travel information, toilets, ticket office and kiosk.
  • We are improving safety and security, with clear sight lines, new lighting and CCTV cameras throughout the precinct.

More green space

We'll build a 'pocket park' on the 700 square metres of rail land next to the rail line on Neerim Road. We’ve heard you want to see seating and shady trees in this new park and have included this in our design.

Better pedestrian and cyclist connections

We're building a new walking and cycling path connecting Ormond and Caulfield, which will make it easier for you to get where you want to go. Whether you are walking your dog, out for a cycle with the family or travelling to local shops and schools or the station, you will have safe off-road access.

Changing Places

We will upgrade the existing public toilets on Glen Huntly Road near the station car park and incorporate a new 'Changing Places' Facility.

This purpose-built facility will have toilets as well as specialist amenities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

What you’ve told us you want in your new station precinct:

  • Contemporary designs that reflect local architecture
  • Improved station facilities and lighting
  • Safe and easy pedestrian access
  • Landscaping and seating
  • Public space around the precinct

Stakeholder Liaison Group update

We’re creating a Stakeholder Liaison Group (SLG) as a way to share information with the community about construction impacts and to respond to project questions.

We have started the selection process from nominations received during our community engagement earlier this year.

The SLG will comprise local residents, community group members and stakeholders who represent community views, and who can provide local perspectives on project works.

Join the conversation

We will hold 3 face-to-face and 3 virtual information sessions for community members with our project experts available to answer your questions about the station designs and the project.

Virtual: Wednesday 7 July and Tuesday 13 July from 5pm to 6pm and Wednesday 14 July from 12 noon to 1pm via Zoom.

Face-to-face: Glen Eira College, 76 Booran Road, Caulfield East

Thursday 15 July between 5pm and 8pm and Saturday 17 July between 11am and 2pm. There will be 3 45-minute sessions on each date.

Bookings for all sessions are free and are essential via Engage Victoria.
