Major works will soon be underway to remove the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing and provide greater service reliability to Altona Loop commuters.

As part of the Victorian Government’s plan to remove 50 dangerous and congested level crossings, we’re removing the level crossing at Kororoit Creek Road and partially duplicating the Altona Loop.

Once complete, trains will pass over the road via two new rail bridges, improving safety and reducing congestion on this important road link for Melbourne’s west.

The rail duplication will also provide more space for trains to pass each other – increasing the reliability of train services in the Altona Loop.

Works update

To minimise disruptions, the project has completed as much work as possible while the train line and local roads have remained open.
Vertical concrete columns to support the first bridge have now been installed alongside the existing tracks, and bridge spans will soon be installed to complete the bridge structure.

In June and July, we will remove the existing rail line and construct a second bridge structure to complete the level crossing removal. Train services on the Altona Loop need to be suspended while we complete these works.

Safety reminder

Speed limits have been reduced near the works site and a temporary pedestrian crossing has been installed to ensure that construction works can be undertaken in a safe manner.

Rail Disruptions

To safely remove the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing and duplicate about 800 metres of the Altona Loop, buses will replace Altona Loop trains and sections of the Werribee Line from 7:30pm Saturday 16 June until the last service on Sunday 29 July 2018, with train services resuming on Monday 30 July 2018.

We are working closely with Metro Trains and will regularly update the community and local traders during the works.
