Ferguson Street, Williamstown – construction fact sheet

03 Dec 2020

What to expect during works

Machinery in a trench at a previous level crossing removal site.

The Victorian Government is removing the level crossing at Ferguson Street, Williamstown by lowering the rail line under the road. The project will make way for a new North Williamstown Station and an upgraded precinct for the community to enjoy.

During construction you can expect:

  • increased noise, dust and vibration
  • construction happening 24 hours a day in late 2021
  • removal of some vegetation around the rail corridor
  • changes to the way you access the area and the station precinct
  • traffic management in place at times
  • rail, road and car park closures.

We have a dedicated team that will work with the community and rail passengers to keep you informed about what's happening during construction.

We strongly encourage anyone highly impacted by the effects of noise, vibration or dust from our works to reach out to our project team. Our team can discuss with you how we can help minimise the impact and put potential mitigations in place.

You can call us 24/7 on 1800 105 105 or email contact@levelcrossings.vic.gov.au

How we'll build the trench

Early 2021

Setting up

The team will set up site compounds near North Williamstown Station on Power Street and Kororoit Creek Road. This will include site offices, staff car parking and space to store materials. We’ll relocate local services such as gas, communications and water.

Rebuild Ferguson Street

Late 2021

Build station and rail

With the trench in place, we’ll lay the train tracks and install the overhead wiring needed to power the trains. We’ll also build the new North Williamstown Station and start installing the urban design features.
