Caulfield to Dandenong area 2 Community update – September 2017
01 Sep 2017
Major works are underway to remove level crossings at Clayton and Centre roads and rebuild Clayton station. Each day we’re moving closer to getting you home faster and safer.
What we’ve been doing
The installation of piers in Clayton is almost complete, with 90 per cent of piers installed. We’re nearing the halfway point for beams with 45 per cent installed, including new beams across Clayton Road that went up in early September.
We’ve also started the construction of parapets along the beams, which will act as protective barriers on the elevated structure.
In the coming weeks we’ll begin construction of the hollow core deck, which will become the foundation of the elevated platform of the rebuilt Clayton Station. We will also complete the installation of piers and beams in Clayton, including the beams across Centre Road.
Open space consultation reports released
The Caulfield to Dandenong project undertook an extensive consultation program, allowing everyone the opportunity to have a say on what the 22.5 hectares of new open space should look like.
In August the project released a report that outlines the recommendations from the Community Open Space Expert Panel. We also published a report that outlines the key feedback, ideas and recommendations received.
The final open space detailed design will be released in late 2017.
Myth: Trucks and buses cannot fit under the elevated rail.
Fact: The heights of the elevated tracks over road vary from 4.7 to 5.9 metres, which exceed the standards set by VicRoads. Height limits for heavy vehicles in Australia are generally 4.3 metres and for double decker buses the limit is 4.4 metres.
Buses will replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines between Caulfield and Dandenong stations from 12:30am Saturday 28 October until the last service on Sunday 29 October 2017.
Centre Road, Clayton, will be closed from 10:00pm Thursday 12 October to 6:00am Friday 13 October 2017, to safely continue installation of the elevated rail. Traffic detours will be in place via Westall Road and Clayton Road. Clayton Road, Clayton, will be closed from 10:00pm Saturday 7 October to 10:00am Sunday 8 October 2017, to safely continue installation of the elevated rail.
Traffic detours will be in place via Princes Highway, Centre Road and Westall Road.
We appreciate your patience while we continue this important project to upgrade the Cranbourne–Pakenham line.
