Caulfield to Dandenong Area 1 Community update - July 2018

26 Jul 2018

What we’ve been doing

All nine dangerous and congested level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong are gone!

Our winter construction blitz saw the last four level crossings at Grange, Koornang, Murrumbeena and Poath roads removed.

Carnegie and Murrumbeena stations are now operational and works to complete the stations are continuing. We are also moving forward with construction in Hughesdale and are on track to open the new station by the end of this year.

After one of our busiest months to date, we have not slowed down progress in Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale. Ground level construction works have continued at Carnegie and Murrumbeena stations to build permanent stairs, and to prepare for the installation of the lifts and escalators. Similar works have been happening in Hughesdale too, as well as continued construction on the new station platform.

Crews have already removed the tracks and resurfaced the road at Grange Road. Works are also well underway along the old railway line, in preparation for the new shared use path and open space.

In the coming months track removals and road resurfacing works will be completed at Poath, Koornang and Murrumbeena roads.

Buskers return to Poath!

Melbourne's best busking talent is heading back to Poath Road in Hughesdale!

Head down to Poath Road, Hughesdale on Saturday 18 August, from noon to 2.00pm and check out Buskers on Poath: A Winter Feast of Entertainment.

Grab a hot chocolate from one of our local traders and enjoy the free entertainment, which includes a roving entertainer, musicians and story telling! It’s fun for the whole family.

Flashback

This time last year we were celebrating the first eight horizontal spans installed on top of piers. These spans were installed by the two gantry cranes at Murrumbeena Station and formed the first section of the elevated rail. Since that time we installed 174 spans to allow us to remove four level crossings to get you home safer and faster.
