Caulfield to Dandenong area 1 Community Update – January 2018
17 Jan 2018
Major works are underway to remove dangerous level crossings at Grange, Koornang, Murrumbeena and Poath roads and build brand new stations in Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale.
New stations taking shape
Despite heavy rain and extreme heat, December saw a significant milestone reached along the line with more than 50 percent of the new elevated rail now installed between Caulfield and Hughesdale.
Works to rebuild the new stations are also ramping up. This includes construction of the new ground level buildings, with internal walls complete at Murrumbeena, and the installation of building frames at Carnegie.
Moving upwards, the station platform is taking shape at Carnegie, while the framework to hold the outer station canopy together is now being installed at Murrumbeena.
Station works will continue over the coming months, with the construction of the smaller internal canopy, outer canopy and station buildings in Carnegie all taking place throughout February.
The new stations at Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale will be complete by the end of this year. They will all include sustainable features such as solar panels, and will create more convenient connections to public transport and the local shops.
- Buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from Wednesday 10 January until the last service on Wednesday 17 January 2018.
- Buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from 8pm until the last service each night from Sunday 21 January until Thursday 25 January 2018.
To begin installation of the elevated rail over Grange Road, the level crossing will be closed for up to nine days between Monday 22 January and Saturday 3 February 2018.
During this period, the level crossing will open during the morning (7:00am to 9:00am) and afternoon (4:00pm to 6.30pm) peaks.
Please follow detour signs in place at Princes Highway, Queens Avenue, Neerim Road and Koornang Road. Pedestrian access may be impacted during this time.
To begin installation of the elevated rail over Poath Road, the level crossing will be closed for up to five days between the following dates:
- Wednesday 31 January to Thursday 8 February
- Friday 23 February to Monday 5 March 2018. Please follow detour signs in place at Warrigal Road, Kangaroo Road and Murrumbeena Road. Pedestrian access may be impacted during this time.
To coincide with the festive season, our Shop Local campaign was officially rolled out across all five shopping precincts between Carnegie and Hughesdale in early December. The campaign reminds residents and our workforce to support their local traders during construction.
As part of the campaign, we mailed 44,000 residents a trader directory, which also included special offers and a parking map, wrapped in a reusable Shop Local bag.
Up to 700 traders have been encouraged to help share the message about shopping locally with a kit which includes badges, stickers, bags and door hangers.
Help support your traders by shopping local this summer.
Rail noise will be louder once trains travel along the elevated rail.
Acoustic experts have predicted that the people closest to the rail line will notice a significant reduction in noise. This is due to factors such as new high-quality, welded tracks, rubber isolation bearings to dampen vibrations, screens to minimise noise and removing noisy warning bells.
