Caulfield to Dandenong Area 1 Community Update – April 2018

01 Apr 2018

All spans installed!

Major works are underway to remove dangerous level crossings at Grange, Koornang, Murrumbeena and Poath roads and build brand new stations in Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale.

The project team has been working around the clock to install the final spans – concrete beams – over the level crossing at Poath Road in Hughesdale. This was shortly followed by the completion of all spans between Caulfield and Hughesdale.

Now that we have completed installing the spans, we will be bidding farewell to the gantry cranes and straddle carrier. You may have noticed two temporary white towers constructed to support the gantry legs while the cranes are being dismantled. After the towers are constructed, a 350-tonne crane will lift the gantry pieces into the assembly yard, where they will be loaded onto a truck and taken away.

The straddle carrier is being disassembled at Murrumbeena. Most of the disassembly will be carried out at ground level where it will be split into three sections and put into storage.

Work is also continuing on the new stations at Murrumbeena and Carnegie. The station canopy at Murrumbeena is more than 50 per cent complete, and work has begun on the canopy in Carnegie.

Station work also continues at Hughesdale, where our project team are installing the hollow core planks for the new Hughesdale Station platform.
