Toorak Road landscaping and finishing works
17 Nov 2020
Landscaping for the Toorak Road Level Crossing Removal Project is complete with 37,000 trees and shrubs now planted.
Brite, a social enterprise and not for profit charity supplied the plants, and they will now be carefully looked after to ensure they get off to a good start.
The new open space created at Tooronga Park by the rail bridge features play and exercise equipment and seating. The shared use paths connecting Toorak Road to Weir Street are now fully opened.
The Toorak Road level crossing was removed in April, six months ahead of schedule.
Prior to its removal, the level crossing was a major bottleneck with boom gates down for around 35 per cent of the morning peak, causing delays and frustration for the 37,000 vehicles travelling through it each day.
