Temporary road taking shape at Cardinia Road

21 Nov 2019

We’re constructing a temporary road on the eastern side of Cardinia Road, Pakenham, with the first set of night works about to take place.

Building a temporary road will keep the community moving while we get on with the job of removing the Cardinia Road level crossing.

Asphalting and line marking works on the temporary road will take place at night when traffic volumes are low.

Cardinia Road will be closed between Shearwater Drive and Henry Road from 9pm to 5.30am each night from Sunday 24 November to Friday 29 November, and from Sunday 1 December to Tuesday 3 December. Detours and traffic management will be in place to help guide you through the area.

Once these works are complete, we’ll transition traffic from the existing Cardinia Road to the new temporary road, which will be in place for the duration of the project.

Throughout the project there'll also be pedestrian detours on the shared use path on the west side of Cardinia Road.

Cardinia Road is one of 17 level crossings to be removed on the busy Pakenham line and the crossing will be gone for good in 2021.
