Spring-ing into action at Wyndham Vale

03 Oct 2019

Wyndham Vale’s new storage facility for V/Line trains is edging closer to completion to provide immediate and long-term benefits to the regional network.

Our projects are spread across greater Melbourne, but it is hard to find a more scenic worksite in spring than the train stabling yard being constructed north of Wyndham Vale Station, set adjacent to bright yellow canola fields.

In recent months, structures – such as gantries, fencing and gates – have been installed and the majority of track has been laid, to allow up to six V/Line trains to be stored at any one time.

In keeping with a broader program focus on sustainability and innovation, the track itself has been embedded with more than 100 Duratrack recycled plastic sleepers – a beneficial alternative to traditional concrete or timber sleepers.

Work has also started on buildings which will house equipment, security and staff amenities, with the project on track to be completed by early 2020.

This new facility is essential to meet stabling needs for V/Line trains, particularly between peak periods, while the design also ensures there is room to expand the facility if required in the future.
