Retaining wall construction at Toorak Road

20 Dec 2019

Major milestones continue to be achieved on the Toorak Road level crossing removal project.

In the final week before the project’s holiday close down, foundation works have been completed and retaining walls have begun to be installed in Tooronga Park.

Manufactured locally in Cobblebank (near Melton), the retaining wall panels being used by the project are between 3 metres and 7.4 metres tall. Each panel is 2.4 metres wide and weighs up to 20 tonnes.

A total of 62 retaining wall panels will be used on the project, with each section of retaining wall in Tooronga Park and on Talbot Crescent approximately 80 metres long.

The retaining walls feature a textured finish and a natural colour, reflecting feedback received during community engagement earlier this year.

Retaining wall installation will continue into 2020 as the new Toorak Road rail bridge continues to rapidly take shape.
