We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Rail bridges preferred for Mooroolbark and Lilydale

05 Aug 2019

Rail bridges have been announced as the preferred designs to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark and Maroondah Highway, Lilydale. Removing these level crossings will boost reliability, slash travel times and improve safety.

The preferred designs include two new stations, and at Mooroolbark, a new multi-deck car park with up to 450 new and upgraded spaces.

A rail bridge design avoids land acquisition and is up to 18 months quicker to build – meaning less impact on communities, traders and transport users.

The project also lays the groundwork for further line upgrades, including the duplication of sections of the Lilydale line and a potential new station between Mooroolbark and Lilydale.
