Rail bridge emerging at Lilydale

26 Apr 2021

We’ve reached a major milestone at Maroondah Highway, Lilydale with the first concrete column poured this week.

The column is the first of 16 that will support the rail bridge. These columns sit on foundations up to 15 metres deep to provide a solid base for the elevated rail.

Like its sister site at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark, the team have built the column using prefabricated reinforcement cages, manufactured in Sunbury. Once all 16 columns are poured, they will contain 2052 tonnes of concrete.

If you’d like to learn more about the construction at Maroondah Highway, sign up for one of our site tours, where project staff will take you behind the scenes of this major infrastructure project.
