We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Preston Market Spend and Win competition winners announced

11 May 2021

The Preston level crossing removal team celebrated local mums last weekend, with the ‘Go Preston…Shop Local’ competition winners draw held at the Preston Market – just in time for Mother’s Day.

Shoppers who spent at least $10 at the Preston Market went into the draw to win a local shopping voucher worth $500, with five $100 market vouchers also up for grabs.

More than 450 entries were received in the competition.

Congratulations to the lucky local winners - Carmel, Lucy, Anna Maria, Melissa, Jacqui and Patricia.

Locals who attended Saturday’s event were also treated to a very special construction-themed flash-mob performance, led by Mike Snell, start of Hugh Jackman’s The Boy from Oz.

Work is well underway in Preston to remove four level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road, and build new stations at Preston and Bell.

As we get on with these works, buses are currently replacing trains on the Mernda line until last service Tuesday 11 May as crews work around the clock to demolish the existing Bell and Preston stations and install temporary station facilities.

The four level crossings at Preston will be gone, and the new stations open by the end of 2022, with the open space ready for the community to enjoy in 2023.
