Piles of progress in Pakenham

20 Jan 2020

Progress has been made towards removing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Cardinia Road, Pakenham.

You may have noticed a few changes to the area surrounding the level crossing if you’re a Pakenham local, including a new road alignment to the east and large machinery to the west.

Late last year our crews worked day and night to construct the temporary road to the eastern side of Cardinia Road.

The temporary road allows traffic to continue to flow through the area while we construct the road bridge parallel on the western side.

Piling works are well underway for the new road bridge. Piling is when we dig vertically into the ground and fill the holes with concrete to create strong foundations for our bridge structure.

These works will continue until the end of January.

Watch the video below to find out more about the piling process.
