High Street level crossing removed and new Reservoir Station open
16 Dec 2019
The 31st level crossing is now gone with Reservoir Station and the intersection at High Street now open.
From early this morning trains began travelling on the brand new rail bridge while traffic flowed beneath – providing the 36,000 vehicles that travel through this intersection daily a safer and more reliable journey.
Today’s opening comes at the end of a two-week construction blitz, where 250 people worked around the clock to complete the kilometre-long bridge, install signalling equipment and finish the station canopy.
Removing the level crossing and creating a new civic plaza in the station precinct improves pedestrian connectivity between Edwardes Street and Broadway, with locals no longer cut off from shops or destinations on the other side of the tracks.
Finishing works on the project will continue into 2020, including installing permanent stairs and lifts at the station, and landscaping with more than 300 trees and 60,000 shrubs and grasses around the station precinct.
Workers will also install new street furniture, signage and reinstate the bus interchange and shared use path.
For passengers that require lift access, an accessible taxi will be available between Regent and Reservoir stations. Please speak to station staff if you require assistance.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during these essential works and look forward to completing the project in 2020.
