Music in the air at Hughesdale

01 Aug 2018

Hughesdale’s Poath Road shopping village will shake off the last of any wintery blues on Satuday 18 August for Buskers on Poath: a special event being held as part of our Shop Local campaign.

Six seasoned performers will take to the streets between midday and 2:00pm, including various musicians, a storytelling penguin and roving magician Anthony de Masi – aka ‘Luigi Zucchini’.

De Masi, whose trademark tricks include working with bunnies, said his quirky moniker went hand in hand with his curled moustache.

“Luigi Zucchini seemed just right for a classic Italian ringmaster,” he said.

“I do a bit of everything – music, comedy, illusion – anything that brings a bit of a thrill into someone’s day.”

The magician, who also holds a Guinness World Record for the longest running magic show, also teaches youngsters at his Magic School of Confidence in  Malvern East.

Freya Campbell, who will transform herself into 'Freya the Storytelling Penguin' for Saturday’s event, is also sure to delight littlies.

Creating a special winter scene straight out of a picture book, she’ll be inviting children to gather round an imitation campfire and listen to stories amongst swirling mock snow.

“Kids love storybooks and this is throwing just a little bit of extra imagination into the mix,” she said.

“I think winter is a time to be celebrated.”

Lisa Ryan, who runs Hughesdale’s Solutions for Hair, encouraged people to come down, enjoy the atmosphere and grab lunch at a local eatery.

“Poath Road Village is like a country town, close to everything but without the hustle and bustle.”

This weekend’s free event is the second of two Buskers On Poath instalments. The first, held in July, attracted around 200 people.
