We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Manchester Road and Maroondah Highway rail bridges complete

05 Nov 2021

The Manchester Road and Maroondah Highway level crossing removal projects celebrated an exciting milestone, with the final concrete L-beams lifted into place in mid October.

This marks the structural completion of both rail bridges, with track laying now underway ready for the first passenger trains to the new Mooroolbark and Lilydale stations on Wednesday 17 November.

'With the main structural pieces in place for the rail bridges, we’re on track to open the new stations and see these level crossings gone for good. We thank the community for their support and continued patience during our construction blitz,' Program Director Steve Brown said.

The bridges are comprised of a combined total of 92 120-tonne L-beams, which were manufactured in Kilmore, Northern Victoria.

Buses continue to replace trains on the Lilydale line until last service on Tuesday 16 November.

We are also doubling passenger parking at Mooroolbark Station to 900 by building a new multi-level carpark.

The projects will be complete in 2022.
