Disruptions

Major works start soon at Clyde Road

10 Dec 2020

Early works to remove the Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing are laying the groundwork for major construction to start early next year, on the new road underpass and bus interchange at Berwick Station.

Since mid-year, we’ve been relocating services in the area including water, power and gas in preparation. Works are also underway on a new U-turn lane and signalised pedestrian crossing on Clyde Road, at Gibb Street to improve local access.

In January and February, there will be temporary closures of the Pakenham line and Clyde Road to drill more than 300 piles, 29 metres into the ground. This will create strong support structures for the new road underpass retaining walls.

Upcoming travel changes

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 10pm Friday 19 February to the last service Thursday 25 February.

Clyde Road will also be closed in both directions between Enterprise Avenue and Reserve Street–Jane Street for periods from 10pm Friday 19 February to 5am Friday 26 February, to safely carry out works on the new road underpass.

Traffic management and detour signs will be in place to help locals move through the area. Visit our disruptions page for more information. We’ll also share more information with the community about what to expect during major construction soon.

Local traders are open for business during level crossing removal works and we encourage the Berwick community to shop local this holiday season.

The Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing will be gone for good in 2022.
