Major works kick off at Cardinia Road
29 Oct 2019
Major works have kicked off at Cardinia Road in Pakenham as we get on with the job of removing this dangerous and congested level crossing.
The level crossing will be removed by building a road bridge over the rail line, reducing congestion, slashing travel times and improving safety for the growing community and surrounding suburbs.
Our crews are currently constructing a temporary road on the eastern side of Cardinia Road. The temporary road will help the community continue to move through the area for the duration of the project.
To safely build the temporary road, some daytime lane closures and full overnight closures of Cardinia Road will be in place from now through to December 2019.
The west shared use path on Cardinia Road will also close from Bridge Road to just north of the level crossing from 24 November 2019 to 2021.
To keep the community and our crew safe while we work, reduced speed limits and detours will be in place. Please follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs while moving through the area.
Cardinia Road is one of 17 level crossings to be removed on the busy Pakenham line. The crossing will be gone for good in 2021.
