We're removing 10 more level crossings by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

Major construction kicks off at Old Geelong Road

02 Feb 2021

Major construction has kicked off at Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing.

The level crossing at Old Geelong Road will be removed by building a new road bridge over the rail line east of the current crossing, directly connecting Princes Highway to Old Geelong Road.

Once complete, the existing level crossing will be closed to traffic, making way for improved community spaces and new landscaped areas.

Crews started work this week to lift huge retaining wall panels into place, the first steps in building the new road bridge.

Works are also well underway on a new pedestrian and cyclist overpass at Hoppers Crossing Station.

Removing the level crossing will improve safety for the 18,000 vehicles that travel through the crossing every day.
