Getting on with the job at Clyde Road

09 Dec 2019

The dangerous and congested Clyde Road level crossing in Berwick is one step closer to being removed with the construction contract signed and works set to start next year.

An alliance of Fulton Hogan and Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) will deliver the $166 million project to remove the level crossing.

The same Alliance is currently delivering the projects to remove the Evans Road, Lyndhurst and Cardinia Road, Pakenham level crossings.

The boom gates at Clyde Road are down for nearly a third of the two-hour morning peak, disrupting the 22,000 drivers who travel through the crossing every day.

Replacing this level crossing with a road underpass beneath the rail line will ease congestion and improve safety for emergency services, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

In 2022, the level crossing will be gone for good.
