Full steam ahead for Lilydale with crossheads installed

14 May 2021

The first crossheads that will support the new rail bridge over Maroondah Highway have been delivered and installed at Lilydale.

The 54-tonne concrete crossheads were made in Kilmore, Victoria and delivered to site by specialised trucks. The team worked overnight to install the crossheads as locals watched on from a safe viewing platform.

The next large bridge structures will be installed in June and we’ll share more information about viewing events in the coming weeks.

The Maroondah Highway level crossing will be removed months ahead of schedule, with boom gates gone and the new station open by Christmas.
